One theory is that he records the child with the forename of the father and the surname of the mother. <br />2 sources give differing information as to the ships log - one states it records "Jane Langley delivered of a girl namely T...G..." giving rise to the possibility that the actual father was Thomas Gilbert - master of "Charlotte". This is further explained in "A new beginning..." (see sources). The second source is Marie Holmes biographical info about Henrietta which says that when Henrietta was baptized it was recorded as "Henrietta Shewing" with father Phillip Shewing and mother Jane Langley.
